Pulmonary Function Test (PFT)

A comprehensive breathing test that measures how well your lungs inhale, exhale and transfer oxygen. Essential for diagnosing and monitoring asthma, COPD, ILD and other respiratory conditions. Simple, non-invasive, and provides instant results for clinical decision-making.

  • Spirometry with bronchodilator reversibility
  • Lung volumes & diffusion capacity (DLCO)
  • Fractional exhaled nitric oxide (FeNO)
  • Six-minute walk test & pulse oximetry

DLCO diffusion capacity test Gas-transfer assessment
Diagnostics

DLCO (Diffusing Capacity of the Lungs for Carbon Monoxide)

DLCO measures how effectively your lungs transfer oxygen into the blood. It is essential for evaluating lung fibrosis, interstitial lung disease, pulmonary hypertension and long-standing asthma or COPD — helping guide accurate treatment decisions.

  • Single-breath technique, takes ~15 minutes
  • Useful for ILD, emphysema & PAH work-up
  • Specialist-interpreted, clear plain-language report

Bronchoscopy procedure suite Day-care procedure
Procedure

Bronchoscopy

A minimally invasive procedure that uses a thin camera to look inside your airways. Used to diagnose infections, tumours, bleeding and unexplained cough, and to collect samples for biopsy or culture — performed under conscious sedation in a day-care setting.

  • Flexible video bronchoscopy
  • Bronchoalveolar lavage & biopsy
  • Foreign body retrieval where required
  • Same-day discharge in most cases

Thoracoscopy — pleural cavity procedure Specialist procedure
Procedure

Thoracoscopy

A keyhole procedure that allows direct visualisation of the pleural cavity (lining of the lungs). Used to diagnose and treat pleural effusion, suspected pleural cancer, infections and unexplained fluid accumulation — with biopsies taken under direct vision for accuracy.

  • Diagnostic medical thoracoscopy
  • Pleural biopsy & fluid drainage
  • Talc pleurodesis where indicated
  • Performed under conscious sedation

EBUS / FNAC / biopsy Image-guided sampling
Procedure

Endobronchial Ultrasound (EBUS) / FNAC / Biopsy

An advanced ultrasound-assisted bronchoscopy used for diagnosing lung cancer, lymph-node enlargement, tuberculosis and mediastinal disease. Allows precise needle aspiration or biopsy with minimal discomfort and high diagnostic yield.

  • EBUS-guided needle aspiration (TBNA)
  • FNAC for lung & mediastinal lesions
  • Targeted biopsy for accurate diagnosis
  • Faster, safer than traditional methods

Forced Oscillation Technique (FOT) Effortless lung-function test
Diagnostics

Forced Oscillation Technique (FOT)

A modern, effortless lung-function test done during normal breathing — ideal for children, the elderly and adults who cannot perform routine PFT. It measures airway resistance and reactance to detect early lung disease, often before symptoms appear.

Service FAQs

Common questions, answered.

An in-clinic study is set up in the evening; sensors are placed and you sleep through the night. You head home in the morning. Results are typically available within 48 hours.
Yes — basic spirometry is reviewed during your appointment. Detailed lung function (DLCO, body plethysmography, FeNO) is typically reported within 24 hours.
Bronchoscopy is performed under conscious sedation with local anaesthetic. Most patients describe it as uncomfortable rather than painful, and recovery is rapid. We discuss everything with you in detail before you consent.
For some tests (e.g. spirometry reversibility), we'll ask you to hold your inhaler for a few hours beforehand. Otherwise, continue your medications as usual unless we advise otherwise.
